STYLE ICON: BLOGGER’S REVIEW

There’s a thin line between a style icon and a fashionista. But let’s first have a look at the definitions, the origins of these words. Style- a manner of doing something, in this case that is an individual’s unique way(s) of doing things (or doing you, lol). Icon- taken from the Greek word “eikon” for “image”, a person/object readily recognised as having some well-known significance. Fashion-new creations by designers, clothing in general...shoes, accessories, make-up.
Now with that being said, we now understand the difference between this two people...a style icon is somebody that has knowledge of self, somebody that understands their true sense of belonging and they can even interpret that thru their fashion sense. In a manner that they usually go for trends and styles that match their characters and personalities, fashion that represents who they are and what they stand for. Hence the saying ‘if you don’t stand for anything, you fall for everything’, and these are the people who tend to be consistent with their style, and if you pay close attention you’ll also notice that most style icons have mastered this ability to tell their life journeys and endeavours thru the way they dress and carry themselves...you can tell if they happy and content with their lives, whether they going thru hard times, as well as when they grow. Basically, they don’t follow fashion they define it and inspire the fashionistas. Fashionistas are the core of fashion as a diverse and ever evolving industry, they adore and follow new trends and styles emerging in the fashion industry. I know most people would agree with me when i say they are the main source of inspiration in a manner that they fuel the commercial viability of the fashion industry. Fashionistas are always out there, vibrant, red eyed and ready to buy into new trends and styles set by our beloved style icons. Stay fabulous...

ART IS ALIVE: 1852

VERBAL ACROBATS: PROFILE

From a big family of thirteen comes two brothers in art, PsyKey Train and Cnyx A. Originally from different crews, Tribal Thoughts (with Rare and Eternal Wisdom) and Heavenly Ill (with Lord Enigma and Stigmatic) respectively, they merged together with the PS crew (Hencelot, MeanGuy and SKH) and four other solo emcees namely Sushi, Masta Slang, TW# and Flo Sicka forming an entity known today as the Verbal Acrobats (VA hereafter). This was back in ’05 which also saw the establishment of one the most formidable production houses in the country yet, the NoyzBox212.Both PsyKey Train and Cnyx A have albums out under NoyzBox212 including the VA’s first album The Reference Workshop which dropped in ’06. NoyzBox212 now houses some of the best talent in Hip Hop with the likes of Black Town, Afrikha, Cyrus Da Virus, Blessed Curse and the VA.
It’s been six years since the VA’s first offering. Having been pulled in all direction by diverging paths of personal journeys through life, VA has brought forth two of its available emcees as representatives to put together this highly anticipated album called After The Flood. An album aimed at realizing and recognizing God, knowledge of self with a conscious and spiritual content and reinforcing the roots of the culture and the true meaning of Rhythm and Poetry. In the making of this album both PsyKey and Cnyx, being incredible engineers and beat makers, decided to work with other artists such as Big Mike of Magic Music, Cyrus Da Virus, Black Faith, Devious Dee, Ayanda (Bass Guitarist) of Spell of Laughter and an international feature LAT from Arizona US. They share the same sentiments on how much of a blessing and honor it has been working with such great talent. “It has been one of the goals this album meant to achieve” they say. “The respect shared among all these artists sort of brings the feeling of God’s presence in the making of this here project to certainty. This kind of unity is, in concept, is thee Ark being built to take us through the flood which on its own is a vast concept better explained through the lyrics in the album” PsyKey adds. VA has seen immense growth in various levels. Apart from both PsyKey Train and Cnyx A holding down families, VA has seen a much esteemed addition to the camp, Inner Eye. More of a Visual Acrobat, Inner Eye is VA’s graphics consultant and designer from the sleeve to web designing. With NoyzBox212 partnering up with X-generation musik, one would say it seems like the sky is the limit but tracks like `A world above stars` that features Cyrus and `Tides on the timeline` give us a direct contrast to that statement.
The recording of the album is done and due to drop this summer. One might expect to find straight up conscious or righteous content only from this project but these cats put it down in a hard and street manner that most will fear to approach with a bluntly skilled ear. This album might also disappoint those who have conformed to the “new school” type rap though, with its mad boombab rhythm and poetic lyricism. Having reviewed this album I must say it is definitely a major contribution to Hip Hop. Don’t take it from me though, go out and get yourself a copy of this rap phenomenon.

PURE AFRICAN RAPS: THE EXPERIENCE!!!

My name is Lebogang Mokhomole aka The Queen’o’Hearts, i know most people know me as a fashionista and a dj/presenter on the “Speak yo’ mind with Cyrus & Queen” monthly pod-cast show brought to the masses by Team Efforts Media, the show is basically the merger of my two favorite worlds that being the fashion  and the music world. I’m also, amongst other things, the manager of X-Generation Music(record label).......
For the past few months, we’ve been working on our main artist Cyrus’s project, the Pure African Raps Mix-tape and i have to say that this is one of the most articulate projects the hip-hop world has ever seen...articulate in a sense that all the elements are on par, everything is well executed...the production, the concepts tackled and lyrics, the delivery, the energy, the diversity and Oo! Oo! There’s a D.V.D as well, of the interviews and 16 bars of all the featured artists...this is definitely a must have for eons to come...big ups! to our main man Cyrus, respect!!!

But, one of the main reasons why I decided to write this piece is so that i can share my experience with the Pure African Raps Soldiers (features)...the dons, the heavyweights in the Gauteng independent hip-hop scene. We’ve had the wonderful opportunity to sit down and have a heart to heart with all the Emcees concerning their journey, passion and endeavors in the hip-hop industry. Now, I’ve been a fan and a hard-core follower of the movement as a whole (the hip-hop culture) for some years, the most exciting and amazing days of my life...nothing beats word, sound and power especially when its relevant and one can relate. However, I’ve always been a little intimidated, sort of awed by most  Mcees and not because of they are scary or anything like that but because of their aura and charisma, this ginormous and exhilarating culture that they represent and the roles that they play in it, their passion and love for positivity, pro-activity and productivity which is inspiring and motivating and most of all I love them for their selflessness.

Thru hip-hop, thru most of these figures my life, my perspective on life was changed for the better. Hip-hop to me is more like the only school that has introduced and has been teaching me the realness of life, the concept of life and how to empower myself, how to believe in myself and my talents. It taught and brought me some of the most precious gifts in life, wisdom, respect, knowledge of self, discipline, courage etc I can honestly say that I’m a better individual now, I’m independent, strong and content ...I salute all who are up and grinding on a daily, making a positive impact in people’s lives,  “Each one must teach one” so that we build a South Africa we can all be proud of. Follow us on this blog to get updated about our events and all!!!

Shout out to all the legends: @#Name Drop!...First and foremost big ups to Cyrus for making this possible, Verbal Acrobats @ Cnyx A & Psykey Train, Devious Dee & Kaovi, Big Mike & Mpress D’vine, Fizzy Fizz & P.Smax, Dark Spark and Projektah Elderbars, Kanly, Blaq Faith
