BLACK-WOMAN'S
HAIR: BLOGGER'S REVIEW
Over
the years we've seen the evolution of black-women's hair. Some people
call it a rebellion, saying that black-women have self-hate and that
they're destroying their health by using dangerous chemicals and
heated irons to straighten their hair. Now I have decided to go back
into time, to research the core matter of this issue: When, how and
why did this religion begin?...I've also asked a few women how they
feel about this issue and I've found out that to most of them this
issue is as light as a feather. It doesn't have anything to do with
anything, it's just hair...but to some it's actually deeper than
that, it's their pride, their social status and the way they choose
to express their personal freedom, though some people may ask, what
does personal freedom have to do with hairstyling?....
The
first evidence of a hair straightener dates back to the late 18th
century when Parisian Marcel Grateau invented the heated-rod hair
straightener in 1872, he also went on to design a hair straightener
with metallic teeth in 1906...then in 1909 Isaak K. Shero patents his
own invention, a hair straightener that consists of two flat irons
that are heated and pressed together. However, it was Lady Jennifer
Bell Schofield (Scottish heiress) who came up with a hair
straightener that is most similar to the hair straightener used
today, she did so by combining both Marcel Grateau and Isaak Shero's
ideas coming up with a hinged, two-plated, heated iron.
Since
these innovations didn't offer any permanent solutions to their
target market (The Black-Americans), they didn't get to be as popular
as their innovators had planned. Then follows the most controversial
of them all, the birth of hair products/relaxers by Madam C.J Walker
and she made a fortune alright! By taking advantage of the social
ills that was encouraging Black-Americans to change the texture of
their hair, she is the first self-made female millionaire in the
world. Wow!!!

IMPANDE CORE: THE BAND, PROFILE.
Impande
Core the name says it all the core of the root. The band is made up
of various talents who all
hail from Ekurhuleni in the Eastrand. The Band was established in
2004. What makes us such a
unique band is our abstract
yet easy on the ear type of sound, our
compositions are catchy, lyrical, soulful and raw in sound. We
have accomplished a lot and have gained popularity with the locals
because of our electrifying
stage presence.
Impande
as we are often
called, have had our
fair share of upheaval disasters but what makes us
so professional in this field
of work is our acceptance to
the difficulties that come with the entertainment industry and our
passion and resilience. There are a
countless number of bands
that would jump at the pleasure of opening for some of South Africa’s
musicians. Impande Core had the opportunity to share the stage with
the likes of internationally acclaimed Blk Jks, Sibongile Khumalo,
Judith Siphuma and songstress
Simphiwe Dana. Impande Core
launched our first music
video in 2009 for their hit single “ What about you “ the song
was so big it even made it on the air waves and was part of the
playlist of Johannesburg well acclaimed radio station Khaya Fm. This
goes to show that Impande has done great during our
past years of recording. The band still continues to do well and
gracing the big stages as Oppiekoppie and Soweto street pop. Its been
a very productive 9 years and the band is still highly in demand.
The boys have been asked what the future holds and their response was
“ Impande Core namanje joe”
which simply means that they will continue in our
quest for making a success in our
music career, we are working
on a album which is in demand
and are promising to give out good music and go far as international.
We certainly hope to see ourselves
receiving a prestigious award in the near future for our
outstanding work and commitment to our
craft.

@#THE HISTORY OF THE INTERNET
The internet started in September 1969 as a project of the U.S
Department of Defence (U.S.A). The project was named ARPANET (Advanced Research
Projects Agency Network, a connection amongst four universities and other
connections of computer networks were then added later on. Then in 1987,
ARPANET changes to NSFNET, a backbone created by the National Science
Foundation (U.S.A) for National Research and Education Network, it represents
the birth of the internet. With the transformation of the internet from being a
private project of the Department of Defence to being national, it also meant
more vulnerability to the cyber criminals, in 1988 a worm attacks more than
6000 computers including those of the Department of Defence.
Then in 1989, World Wide Web (WWW or “the web”) is developed at
CERN and changed things around by introducing a graphical interface to the
largely text-based Internet...using hypermedia, documents could now include
audio, video, images and others. This signifies the birth of the internet as we
now know it. The web meant amongst other things, more information, less
geographical boundaries, more collaboration opportunities and simple accessible
communication technologies. 1995 Microsoft releases the first version of
internet explorer, 1996 Yahoo goes public, 2005 Youtube is launched, 2009 the
number of internet users grows by billion every month, 2010 Facebook users
exceeds 500 million!!!
I also know from personal experience that the internet has
turned out be a major part of our lives today, so much that we’ve managed to
completely overlook some of the dangers that it poses...the fact that there’s
neither rules, regulations nor transparency policies means that we’re
constantly exposed to cyber criminals, especially on social networks. Cyber
crooks are so sophisticated that you would not suspect them and they always
gather their information from things that we take lightly. Below we have a few
tips on how to protect your personal information on social networks.
1.
Always use privacy controls offered by the site you’re using.
2. Use passwords that mix
upper and lowercase letters with numbers and symbols.
3. Do not post your real
personal phone number and address.
4. Do not post children’s
names, even in photo tags and captions.
5. Do not be specific when
posting information about vacations and business trips.
6. Do not upload pictures of
you in front of your house where the address is visible.
7. Ensure that your internet
security software is always updated to avoid hackers.

09 AUGUST 1956
WOMEN'S
DAY
It
was on the 9th of August 1956, 20 000 South African women
staged a march to the Union Building in Pretoria to fight against
what was commonly known as the “pass laws”, the law that was
forcing African Persons to carry their identification documents at
all times.
They
stood outside the building silently for 30 minutes, most of them
carrying their babies on their backs. They sang a protest song,
composed in honor and especially for the occasion “Wathint'Abafazi
Wathint'imbokodo(Now you have touched the women, you have struck a
rock)”, they also left bundles of petitions containing thousands of
signatures of the protesters...over the years the very song has come
to represent women's courage and strength in South Africa.
Shouts
to all the strong, courageous women all over the globe...on this day
we'd also love to honor those who made this day possible, Mama
Albertina Sisulu, Lillian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Sophia Williams-De
Bruyn and all the women who took charge and decided to stand and
fight for their rights and that of Africans as a nation.
