S.A HIP HOP NEWS: KULI CHANA
THE
S.A HIP HOP COMMUNITY HAS BEEN UNDER A DARK CLOUD THIS WEEK, MAYBE WE SHOULD
MARK THIS WEEK ON OUR CALENDARS. STARTING WITH THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF THE
LEGEND, ROBO THE TECHNICIAN, AS IF THAT WAS’NT ENOUGH, THE S.A POLICE
DEPARTMENT WENT ON AND BLUNDERED ON US. THEY MISTAKENLY SHOT S.A HIP HOP STAR,
KULI CHANA, IN THE EALRY HOURS OF THE MORNING, IN MIDRAND. APPERENTLY THEY WERE
UNDERCOVER COPS ON A STAKE OUT WAITING TO ARREST SUSPECTS IN A KIDNAPPING CASE.
I WOULD LOVE TO THINK THAT OUR UNDERCOVER TASK FORCE IS PROFESSIONAL ENOUGH NOT
TO SHOOT AT CAR WITHOUT PROPERLY IDENTIFYING THE SUSPECTS INSIDE BUT I GUESSE
NOT. ALL I CAN SAY IS SPEEDY RECOVERY TO OUR BROTHER KULI, THEY ONLY GAVE YOU
STORIES TO WRITE ABOUT, MAKE THEM HOT B…
TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND: ROBO THE TECHNICIAN
This
week the hip hop community was hit with a devastating blow. We lost a hip hop
heavyweight and a legend and those who knew robo the technician will surely
testify.
I
met this brother in the mid-nineties and at that time robo was already a
well-seasoned mc and a performer. In those days he partnered with omen and they
created beautiful classics that inspired and motivated other and younger mc’s
at lee club. What shined the most about robo, till his death, was his humility,
he was really a humble soul brother. He
was always ready and willing to welcome people who loved and respected him for
his music and I know this from experience having been one of those people. I am
blessed to have come across such a soul in my own lifetime, and I believe hip
hop should cherish its mcs while their still alive for the respect due. I
PROPOSE WE CELLEBRATE THE LIFE OF THIS LEGEND BY FULLFILLING SOME OF HIS HOPES
AND ASPIRATIONS, LET US CONTINUE TO LOVE AND CHERISH THE ART IN HIP HOP AND
CELLEBRATE THE CULTURE OF THE MESSAGE IN THE MUSIC. TO THE SUPPORTERS OF HIP
HOP, LET US ACTIVELY SUPPORT THE GROWTH OF THE CULTURE BY BUYING ORIGINAL LOCAL
HIP HOP MUSIC. I BELIeVE IT IS STEPS LIKE THESE WE CAN TAKE TO MAKE sure THE
LEGACY OF SUCH LEGENDS IS NOT FORGOTTEN AND THEIR LIVES WERE NEVER INVANE. I
DON’T KNOW ITS JUST ME, I’LL PUT IT OUT THERE.
Rest
in peace to our big brother robo the technician hip hop will always remember
you as a poet, lyricist, mc, public speaker and performing artist of the highest
caliber.

FUMES ON THE MIC PROFILE
I've been
rapping for almost ten years now, and
only took to
the stage four years ago, I am currently a resident rapper at the Next Move hip
hop session held every last Sunday of the month at the Street Hawker concept
store in Dube.
I've worked
with the likes of Psykey-Train,Cynx A,P Flow,Cifer which resulted in a
compilation entitled Truth Booth presents Heal The Streets which made its
rounds in my neighborhood as well as I just recently completed my project Self-Serve
of which I worked with Steady Rock on. I’ve also worked with Devious D on a
single entitled Doom.
I've performed
at a number of shows besides the Next Move such as, The Orthodox session and
Frelimo sessions in Protea,Bring The Art Back session in Meadowlands, as well
as a couple of shows in Jozi.
My goal is to
become the most versatile rapper of all time. I love the art of rap enough to
merge all of its properties in a variety of rhythms and flows.
I don't like
to consider myself an up and comer because I've been at this most of my life,
butnone the less I wish to stay the "new kid on the block" forever
simply because keeping it fresh is natural to me!
My works:
Helloween
Bedroom
Letter to my
Ancestors
The Heist (all
recorded at OST in 2009)
Truth Booth
presents Heal the Streets (recorded@ Truth Booth Studio 2010-2011)
Self-Serve
(recorded@Army of One 2012-2013)
A number of
"floating tracks" have been recorded as well.
